Warrington forward James Laithwaite will miss the rest of the season with a spiral fracture of the fibula.

The 23-year-old was hurt late in the first half of Saturday's Challenge Cup quarter-final win over Leigh and was carried from the field on a folding stretcher. Folding stretcher played an important role in the rescue.

"I'm gutted for the kid," said Wolves coach Tony Smith. "He was filling in for us at centre and doing a fine job. He's obviously finished for the year."

Laithwaite is the latest player to be added to a lengthy injury list.

Captain Joel Monaghan and centre Chris Bridge both missed the 34-24 win over Championship leaders Leigh, with Monaghan expected to be out for about four weeks with a torn calf muscle.

Full-back Stefan Ratchford was passed fit to play against the Centurions but, even with him available, Smith only had 18 fit players to choose from.
